# Inspect a Block

> Inspect one block by number, hash, or tag.

Use `chain block` to print compact block metadata from a running node.

## Command

By tag:

```sh theme={null}
rex chain block --block latest
```

By decimal block number:

```sh theme={null}
rex chain block --block 128
```

By hash:

```sh theme={null}
rex chain block \
  --block 0xaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
```

## Example Output

## Field Notes

* `Transactions` is the number of transaction hashes in the block response.
* `Gas utilization` is `gasUsed / gasLimit`.
* `Base fee` is unavailable for pre-London blocks or chains that do not expose `baseFeePerGas`.
